The OSU -Cascades Campus Safety Team is seeking a Campus Security/Public Safety Officer. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, public safety professional position.
This position is located in Bend, Oregon.
Mission of OSU -Cascades Campus Safety:
- Ensure the safety and security of all who come to OSU-Cascades to learn, work, or visit.
- Protect the property of OSU-Cascades and the personal property of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus.
- Promote student success by maintaining a welcoming environment conducive to the educational process.
The successful candidate will join a small team of Campus Safety professionals who promote safety and well-being on campus. The Campus Security/Public Safety Officer conducts patrols, provides assistance, and responds to crises as an initial responder and liaison with emergency services.
Designations as a special campus security officer, as defined in ORS352.118, may be granted with a written designation from the University, outlining additional authority and limits.
OSU -Cascades, located in Bend, Ore., is a branch campus of Oregon State University with over 1,200 students. Unlike the main campus in Corvallis, which has its own police department, Cascades relies on the Bend Police Department for law enforcement, focusing on crisis response.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be at least twenty-one years old;
- Possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire;
- Hold and maintain first aid, AED, and CPR certification, or obtain within 30 days;
- Hold and maintain LEDS certification, or obtain within 90 days;
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Successfully pass a comprehensive background check;
- Understand and demonstrate knowledge of OSU-DPS policies within an 18-month trial period.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least twenty-one years old;
- Valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days;
- First aid, AED, CPR certification or obtain within 30 days;
- LEDS certification or obtain within 90 days;
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Pass a comprehensive background assessment including criminal, driving, medical, psychological, and drug screening;
- Knowledge of OSU-DPS policies within 6 months;
- Computer literacy with MS Office preferred;
- One year of security, military, or similar experience applying security techniques;
- Ability to promote diversity through respectful engagement in various safety and outreach activities.
This position involves driving university or personal vehicles, requiring a motor vehicle history check and valid driver's license. It is a critical or security-sensitive role, requiring a criminal history check and self-reporting of convictions, with additional checks for youth program involvement every 24 months.
Work Conditions:
- Expected to work midnight/third shift, outdoors in various weather conditions, performing patrols;
- Available for all shifts including day, swing, and night;
- Work schedule includes 4/10-hour days or 5/8-hour days, with potential for emergency and on-call responses;
- Cell phone required during all shifts;
- Work environment includes noise, lights, chemicals, heights, confined spaces, and potentially hostile situations.
Salary Range: $26.52-$36.32
