Job summary

University of Houston is seeking a Police Officer to provide physical security for campus facilities and respond to incidents. The role operates under state guidelines, with duties including door security, monitoring cameras, guest assistance and incident reporting. The position may require night shifts, weekends, and overtime, and requires a Texas driver’s license and successful background checks.

No prior experience is required. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic grammar, spelling and simple math skills are expected.
• Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.
• Background and criminal history checks are required.
• Pre-employment drug screening is required.
• Work nights, weekends and overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Unlocks and locks doors and checks floors for unsecured doors.
• Monitors entry and sign-in/out logs.
• Monitors security cameras and radio traffic; reports camera malfunctions.
• Answers calls and provides information to visitors.
• Prepares incident reports and coordinates with police in emergencies.
• May handle parcels and deliver to floors or staff.
• Patrols assigned areas to check for irregularities and criminal activity.
• Manage entry to gated parking as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
