JOB SUMMARY: Campus Security Officers provide protection and service to the Institutions students, faculty, staff and visitors located on the LECOM Campus and Satellite facilities. Officers employ a variety of methods and techniques to carry out this mission including, but not limited to, foot and vehicular patrols, utilization of surveillance CCTV systems, alarm systems, and lock and key systems. Officers interact with all emergencies on campus, maintain constant vigilance for criminal activity and safety threats while making appropriate reports as necessary, enforce local, state and Institutional regulations as designated, as well as, perform administrative and support tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes and preserves the mission of LECOM;
  • Act as departmental representative with faculty, staff and visitors in a professional friendly manner at all times;
  • Maintain confidentiality, professional appearance and pleasant demeanor;
  • Provide visible protection for students and employees on campus;
  • Respond to emergencies on campus;
  • Assist other law enforcement officers on campus;
  • Monitor student, employee and visitor activities on campus;
  • Enforce college policies e.g., Smoking, Food and Beverage, Weapons, Drug and Alcohol;
  • Conduct patrols of campus and satellite campus facilities;
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue parking tickets;
  • Investigate and report on non-criminal incidents that occur of campus;
  • Observe and report on safety hazards found on campus;
  • Submits Incident Reports on actions taken;
  • Enter Daily Activity Reports to the Director of Security and/or his/her designee;
  • Process found and abandoned property on campus;
  • Annotate Incident Log, conduct video surveillance through CCTV system Monitor and controls access to facility through proximity card access system and lock and key system;
  • Monitor and react to the intrusion alarm system in campus facilities;
  • Control, issue and receive operational keys used by employees on a daily basis;
  • Monitor and react to the automated fire alarm system in campus facilities;
  • Follow policy and procedures for cadaver deliveries when the anatomy staff is not on campus;
  • Conducts student and employee escorts on campus as requested;
  • Enter incident reports either manually or through automated information system;
  • Receive and report on incoming business calls to college after normal business hours
  • Performs administrative, investigative and support duties as assigned by the Director of Security; and
  • Accepts other duties as assigned / needed to maintain a safe and secure campus environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Strong computer literacy with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel…etc.) and accurate data entry skills;
  • Maintaining an established work schedule;
  • Adhere to all local, state, federal laws and LECOM policies and procedures;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of pertinent laws, policies /procedures and/or guidelines affecting areas of responsibility;
  • Ability to be self-reliant and follow instructions;
  • Must have sound decision making capabilities and the ability to work independently and as directed by the Institutional Director of Security and/or his/her designee;
  • Capable of assuming responsibility; initiating appropriate action; and maintaining confidentiality;
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain confidentiality of patient (HIPAA) and student privacy (FERPA);
  • Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols (OSHA), at the clinic level;
  • Must be trained and certified on the Institutional Data System;
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy;
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through;
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands;
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;
  • Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the Institution's needs;
  • The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;
  • The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM; and
  • The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience equivalent to: a minimum of a high school diploma and/or equivalent required. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License. Must be able to obtain an active "D" License in accordance with FL Statute XXXII, Chapter 493. Successful candidate must possess efficient and effective verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills, multi-task and problem solve to properly support and promote the mission of LECOM.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye. Ability to work various / rotating shifts, to include: weekends, holidays, and inclement weather.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee is responsible for performing duties in an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment, including sexual harassment. Work is performed indoors in an office setting and outside of the office at local community outreach sites. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.

SAFETY

Assists in the creation of a culture of safety and environmental protection by performing work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: Ensure compliance with the LECOM Computer and Network Usage Policy - General Guidelines for Faculty and Staff.
