Job summary

The University of Nebraska at Omaha is seeking a Campus Security Officer to patrol university buildings, arenas, and residence halls, ensuring safety and enforcing campus policy. This role involves foot, bike, or vehicle patrol, responding to alarms, and assisting with event security.

The CSO will engage with students and staff, prepare incident reports, provide escorts, and support other officers. Flexible schedule includes day, evening and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Nebraska driver’s license.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED and PPCT training required.
  • Pre-employment Physical, Drug Screen and related compliance may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols university property by foot, bike or vehicle in all weather conditions.
  • Respond to emergency situations including medical and fire alarms.
  • Provide assistance to students, staff and visitors and escort as needed.
  • Investigate suspicious activity and complete incident reports.
  • Direct traffic during peak times and at locations as required.

Position Summary

Security/Patrol: Conducts patrol of the University academic buildings, sports arenas, fields, and residence halls, both internal and external, for safety, security and detection of statutory and University policy violations by ways of foot patrol, mobile patrol or bike patrol. Performs routine security checks of designated property requiring specialized security attention. Responds to fire alarm calls and related incidents as assigned. Responds to service related calls as assigned, such, but not limited to, keys in vehicle, building or room lock outs, parking complaints and escorts. Performs traffic control duties. Provides assistance to officers or other CSO’s as needed. Open and closes buildings for special events or irregular classes. Provides security at University sanctioned events.
Community Relations: Makes contacts with students and staff and attends meetings as needed to establish a positive working relationship with the University community. During campus patrols, CSOs will make contact with housing staff, maintenance, or on call personnel as necessary for dissemination of information resulting from incidents on campus property. CSOs must communicate with other department CSO’s and officers, residence hall resident assistants, resident directors and the overall University community and visitors. Reporting: Prepares concise and accurate reports of their involvement in incidents. Maintains a knowledge of department Standard Operating Procedures, statutes, and University Policies. Attends required in-service training to maintain proficiency in duties. Provides training to new CSO’s as needed and completes documentation necessary for certifications.
