Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking candidates for School Security Attendant positions at the specified location in Kailua, HI. The authorized level is School Security Attendant III, with openings also for Attendant I and II if needed.

Responsibilities include supervising campus activities, patrolling grounds, enforcing rules, and coordinating with administrators during events and emergencies. Certification as a Guard is required by the Hawaii Board of Private Detective and Guards.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be able to read, write and understand English, follow oral and written instructions, and perform basic arithmetic.

Responsibilities

• Performs campus supervision by patrolling the school grounds during class, lunch period, before and after school hours
• Observes and reports on unusual student behavior on campus
• Discusses problems with students and encourages them to seek or accept assistance and/or counseling
• Ensures the safe and orderly movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic on school grounds and may supervise and monitor the JPO program
• Enforces school rules and regulations by prohibiting student smoking, gambling, fighting, vandalism, etc.
• Inspects and patrols playgrounds, bathrooms, assembly areas, cafeteria and other facilities to identify safety and security hazards as appropriate
• Directs unauthorized persons and drivers off the school premises and reports concerns to administrators
• Assists the administration and staff with supervision at assemblies, pep rallies, athletic events, dances
• Instructs loitering students to proceed to their destination
• Assists teaching staff in handling disturbances
• Informs administrators of critical situations requiring police, fire or other outside assistance
• May activate alarm as necessary.
