Job summary

Oberlin College’s Campus Safety seeks a full-time, continuing Confidential Administrative Staff member with the internal rank of Supervisor, reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Safety. The role emphasizes supervision, life and property protection, and coordinating emergency and general safety services on a campus-wide basis.

The ideal candidate will supervise shifts, coordinate patrols, trainings, and investigations, enforce campus policies, and prepare comprehensive reports.

Qualifications

• Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field or a safety course certificate.
• 21+ years old with a valid Ohio driver's license and insurability.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
• Ability to interact respectfully with a diverse campus community.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and stay composed in emergencies.
• Willingness to work with management to maintain campus safety.
• Excellent references and pre-employment screening are required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff on an assigned shift, assigning work and coordinating procedures.
• Give staff clear orders, provide feedback, guidance and counseling.
• Facilitate patrol, security and service functions of Campus Safety personnel.
• Develop schedules and provide ongoing training for officers.
• Investigate incidents and document findings on shift.
• Coordinate crime prevention information for the assigned area.
• Meet regularly with Campus Safety leadership to coordinate duties.
• Provide shift summaries and oral briefings to the incoming shift.
• Verify subordinate time clock information before submission.
• Conduct campus patrols by various means and provide safety services.
• Perform traditional safety/security duties as needed and respond to emergencies.
• Enforce Oberlin College safety policies and applicable laws.
• Conduct thorough security checks of facilities and ensure integrity.
• Investigate incidents and review camera/access records as needed.
• Submit comprehensive written incident reports.
• Report hazards and correct safety issues promptly.
• Lock/unlock facilities on schedule.
• Provide periodic inspections of safety equipment.
• Promote crime prevention and fire safety awareness.
• Transmit emergency messages when needed.
• Perform duties of Campus Safety/Communication Officer as required.
• Fulfill responsibilities as a Campus Security Authority per Jeanne Clery Act.
