Job summary

Memphis Shelby County Schools is seeking a Safety & Security Monitor to maintain a secure environment for staff, students, and visitors. The role includes screening at the school and at athletic events, and support during after-hour activities.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of related experience. Training in weapons detection and X-ray machines, plus ongoing collaboration with administrators and security personnel, are essential.

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent is required.
• 2 years of experience in a relevant area.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the security screening of students, visitors and staff entering the school daily.
• Ensures that 100% of students, staff and visitors are screened and/or cleared prior to entering the building.
• Completes training and certification for the operation of the weapons detection system and X-ray machines.
• Trains school staff and security personnel on how to operate the machines.
• Monitors suspicious activity and reports to appropriate school authorities as needed.
• Assists with school openings and dismissals and supports safety operations.
