Job summary

KIPP Capital Region is seeking a School Safety Officer to support the instructional process and ensure student safety on campus in Albany and Troy, NY. The role involves monitoring personnel and visitors, enforcing school rules, and coordinating safety procedures for events and activities.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a high school diploma/equivalency, a valid driver's license, and at least five years in law enforcement or security, preferably in

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred or high school diploma/equivalency required.
• Current, valid driver's license and license must remain valid throughout employment.
• Qualified to carry under the federal law as peace officers or security personnel with an armed registration (as applicable).
• Five years of experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or security.
• Security experience working with students, preferably in urban schools or charter/private/public settings.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule outside regular hours.

Responsibilities

• Implements safety and security protocols to ensure a safe school environment.
• Evaluates effectiveness of school safety programs and security measures.
• Develops plans and procedures to improve safety and security programs.
• Ensures safety protocols for public events, sports, and extracurricular activities.
• Investigates incidents and maintains a log of events.
• Conducts risk assessments and recommends safety strategies.
• Responds to emergencies and provides aid as needed.
• Assist in developing safety documentation and school security guidelines.
• Recommends improvements to prevent violence in schools and properties.
• Coordinates with law enforcement and safety professionals on public safety matters.
• Evaluates security and surveillance equipment across properties.
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
• Adheres to laws, policies, and regulations; supports mission and values.
