Job summary

Washington College in Maryland is seeking a Patrol Officer to join our Campus Police. Officers serve as sworn Campus Police Officers with a Special Police Commission and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

The role requires enforcing campus policies and laws, performing patrols, responding to emergencies, and building trust with the campus community through proactive policing and problem solving.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to successfully complete all required background investigations, reference checks, and pre-employment screening requirements.
• Ability to obtain appointment as a Commissioned Campus Police Officer and complete training within one year.
• Ability to maintain proficiency with department-issued weapons, equipment, and defensive tactics systems.
• Previous experience in campus law enforcement or related public service is preferred.
• Current or prior law enforcement certification or related coursework is desirable.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain.
• Commitment to community-oriented policing and providing exceptional service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during emergencies and high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or patrol vehicle to monitor for safety hazards.
• Maintain a visible campus presence to deter crime and ensure safety.
• Respond to emergencies, secure scenes, assist those in need, and coordinate with emergency services.
• Enforce campus policies and applicable laws, and conduct investigations as needed.
• Manage traffic flow on campus roads and enforce parking regulations.
• Assist with crowd management during campus events and large gatherings.
• Engage with the campus community to build positive relationships and provide safety education.
• Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies on investigations and testify as needed.
