Loomis Chaffee School is seeking an experienced Campus Safety Officer to join our community. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young people, previous experience working in an academic setting, strong communication skills and must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving history. This is a per diem position, Sunday 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., with opportunities for additional shifts as needed. Shift Differentials are available for evenings and weekend shifts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct professional, reliable patrols of campus buildings and grounds to ensure a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and facilities.
  • Supervise dining, athletics, and academic spaces to ensure order, safety, and compliance with health & safety protocols.
  • Transport students as needed, including to medical appointments and other authorized locations.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of campus events.
  • Patrol the campus on foot and by vehicle, ensuring security and safety, identifying and addressing safety and security issues.
  • Perform general security functions, including patrol, observation, and incident documentation.
  • Collaborate with Residential Staff, Deans, and other campus personnel to promote a safe environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of life safety, fire safety, and security procedures relevant to a co-ed boarding school and residential environment.
  • Support the Physical Plant in maintaining and improving facilities and grounds.
  • Assist with parking for athletic and other events.
  • Be available for emergencies and scheduled off-hour work, including call-outs for events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Typically, two (2) years of experience as a Security Officer preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Experience working with young people, especially adolescents.
  • Experience in residential academic settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, good judgment, high energy, team-oriented.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to walk extensively, lift up to 30 lbs., and work in various weather conditions.
  • Professional appearance and conduct, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Effective communication and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Licenses, Certifications, and Testing
  • Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
  • State-certified security officer or ability to obtain certification.
  • EMT or advanced first aid, CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain.
  • Pre-employment physical and background check required.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor, outdoor, and field environments in all weather conditions.
  • Stand/walk for up to 12 hours, with bending, twisting, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, on short notice.
  • Good attendance record required.
