Job Summary

Campus Safety Officers are responsible for protecting college personnel, students, and property, providing a safe and secure campus environment, and preserving peace.

The position works on-site in Jackson, MS, with a part-time schedule of two 8-hour shifts per week, including shifts on Saturday and Sunday: 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, and 11pm-7am.

Job Duties

• Respond to campus emergencies, medical or criminal, that could be hazardous or life-threatening.
• Enforce campus policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Assist with enforcement of regulations and Code of Conduct violations.
• Conduct regular inspections of campus facilities during shifts.
• Report hazards such as trespassers, fire, water leaks, or other issues.
• Unlock buildings for scheduled events and ensure security measures are followed.
• Patrol assigned areas.
• Handle dispatch duties, including radio communication, traffic monitoring, emergency lines, and surveillance.
• Control access to campus, ensuring only authorized persons are admitted.
• Enforce traffic regulations, including parking and speeding.
• Manage crowd control during events.
• Monitor weather conditions and report dangerous activity.
• Investigate violations and prepare incident reports.
• Coordinate with local law enforcement as needed.
• Provide informational awareness to students and staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work 8-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, with possible evening or overnight shifts.
• Physical ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, and lift.
• Lift up to 35 lbs regularly, and up to 175 lbs in emergencies.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and climb stairs.
• Ability to analyze situations, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure.
• Read and understand written instructions.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license.
