The primary role of the Campus Safety Officer at Baker College is to ensure the security and safety of faculty, staff, students, and visitors within the campus. Responsibilities include safeguarding property, providing escort services, and offering basic public assistance. The officer performs routine patrols on foot, in vehicles, or specialized equipment, checks doors, windows, and gates, and monitors for suspicious activities.
Additional duties involve informing violators of infractions, providing escorts, assisting with lockouts, jump-starts, and information, reporting irregularities, and contacting emergency responders when necessary. Officers must remain vigilant for unauthorized persons, security breaches, and hazards, and may provide transportation services using institutional vehicles. They also monitor parking areas, investigate incidents, and prepare incident reports.
The role includes serving as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act, acting as desk officers, and collaborating with law enforcement agencies. Requirements include two years of experience in law enforcement, military, or security, an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field (preferred), and possession of a valid Concealed Pistol License, driver’s license, and First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Officers must meet Michigan state laws and Baker College standards, carry a duty-appropriate firearm, and provide a suitable holster.
