Campus Safety Officer

Position Summary: Ensures the safety of faculty, staff, and students and monitors facilities, ensuring compliance with college rules and dealing with emergency situations.

THIS IS A WEEKEND SHIFT POSITION- PART TIME (12 hour shift)

Duties and Responsibilities: (*Indicates non-essential function)

• Patrols campus during nighttime hours, checks boilers and other equipment for proper operation and reports unusual situations. Provides escorts on campus as needed.
• Checks outside windows in dorms and windows and doors in all campus buildings, including Greek houses, the Campus Village, Fife Avenue, and College Commons.
• Deals with students or other persons on campus who are in violation of college rules in a reasonable but effective manner.
• Exercises judgement and contacts proper authorities when situation warrants.
• Answers radio/telephone for emergency calls as needed, including weekends and holidays.
• Performs routine maintenance assistance and servicing of institutional vehicles. Periodically assists custodial staff where needed.
• Serves as an on-call person to help cover special events. Assists in covering for absence of other officers.
• Attends department meeting and special training programs outside normal work schedule.
• Periodically checks all parking lots to ensure that vehicles are safe. Checks for illegally parked vehicles and issues tickets or has them removed.
• Locks and unlocks buildings as scheduled.
• Performs related duties as needed or as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized training in safety and security plus at least six months of security experience highly desirable.
• Possession of an Ohio driver’s license.
• Evidence of a high degree of maturity and dependability, with the ability to make sound judgements and deal with emergency situations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals who may require persuasion or other appropriate action.
• Ability to write reports and maintain records and logs. Background in investigations helpful.
• Willingness to independently work night shifts.
