Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY is seeking a Campus Safety Officer to protect the campus and support a safe educational environment. Responsibilities include patrols, access control, emergency notification, and safety inspections.

The role emphasizes customer service and community relations within a diverse school community. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, CPR/First Aid/AED, and a valid NYS Driver’s License, with 3–5 years’ safety experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some college credit preferred.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certification, or willingness to become certified upon employment.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to pass MVR check.
• Strong customer service and safety awareness background.

Responsibilities

• Conduct vigilant patrols of school property by vehicle and on foot.
• Patrol parking lots to identify unauthorized or suspicious vehicles.
• Assess emergencies and notify campus personnel, police, fire and EMS when needed.
• Inspect doors, gates, windows and other access points to prevent entry by unauthorized persons.
• Inspect emergency equipment, extinguishers, lights and exit signs regularly.
• Enforce safety rules with faculty and administration.
• Maintain a thorough daily log of activities and shift reports.
• Assist with traffic control during key times and events.
• Represent Hackley with professionalism when serving the community.
• Notify key personnel of major incidents promptly and discreetly.
• Interact with students and staff in a courteous and respectful manner.

Reporting directly to Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds, the primary role of the Campus Safety Officer is to ensure the safety and security of the Hackley property and maintain a safe educational and living environment for all community members and guests. With an emphasis on customer service and strengthening community relations to further the mission of the School, Campus Safety Officers are committed to serving a diverse school community and are tasked with identifying, assessing, and responding to potential hazards and safety-related incidents. Campus Safety Officers should expect to work a shift schedule along with weekends and/or holidays when necessary.Applicants should be CPR/First Aid/AED certified or be willing to become certified upon employment (at no cost to the employee). The ideal candidate embodies these values and models them for others.Reporting StructureCampus Safety Officers report directly to the Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds, while also taking direction from the Director of Buildings & Grounds and Director of Operations.Specific ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Conduct vigilant patrols of School property both in vehicle and on foot.Patrol campus parking lots to identify unauthorized or suspicious vehicles.Assess emergency situations and notify campus personnel, police, fire and EMS, when appropriate.Inspects all campus buildings, doors, gates, windows, and other access points to the Hackley campus for the protection of the community and its assets and to ensure unauthorized persons are not able to gain entry.Inspects emergency equipment, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, and exit signs on a regular basis to ensure operational readiness and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Assist the faculty and administration in enforcing and identifying violations of safety rules and policies.Maintain a thorough daily log of activities and assorted reports for each assigned shift.Assist with traffic control at key points of the day and during special events as needed.Represent Hackley by providing professional and courteous assistance when responding to requests for service, interacting with members of the community, or assisting guests and visitors.Notify key personnel of major incidents or emergencies on campus in a timely manner.Demonstrate discretion and decorum in communication and maintain confidentiality with unquestionable integrity.Interact with students, colleagues, consultants and members of the public in a courteous and respectful mannerQualificationsThe ideal candidate will have:High school diploma required, with some college credit preferredPrevious experience in a safety or security position (3-5 years preferred)CPR/First Aid/AED certified or be willing to become certified upon employment (at no cost to the employee).Candidates must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and pass a motor vehicle record checkDemonstrated experience in successfully providing high level quality customer serviceAbility to identify hazards and address or report conditions for improvementStrong written and verbal communication skillsCollaborative style with commitment to high ethical standardsDemonstrated experience working independentlyAn interest in and commitment to fully engaging in the Hackley communityAbility to maintain a professional and respectful relationship with all constituenciesAbility to give and receive feedback with grace and humilityFlexibility, kindness, open-mindedness, and sense of humorSalary and Benefits:The pay rate for this hourly, overtime eligible, position is $21.00/per hour.
