Job summary

Oakland University seeks applicants for a part-time Campus Safety Officer to support the West Campus in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The officer reports to the Chief of Police and assists with general security, safety, and protection duties for the campus community.

The role involves varied shifts, typically 7:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m., with possible weekend availability. Officers will patrol, monitor access, escort, and respond to incidents while upholding campus safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to university insurance.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs.
• Completion and approval of a physical to verify ability to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned area on foot or in vehicle to ensure security of people, buildings, and equipment.
• Inspects doors, windows, and gates for security; monitors for unauthorized access or suspicious activity.
• Warns violators of infractions and enforces campus rules.
• Provides escort services and routine assistance to visitors, students, staff, and faculty.
• Monitors surveillance cameras for disturbances or unlawful activities.
• Opens and secures facilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Candidate must have high school diploma or GED
• Must maintain a valid driver's license & driving record acceptable to the University's insurance carrier.

Position Purpose

Oakland University is seeking applicants for the part-time position of Campus Safety Officer. This position reports directly to the Chief of Police. Interested applicants should enjoy working with young adults and understand the uniqueness of the college campus community environment. The shifts vary but will normally range in time from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. with possible weekend availability. Shift hours assigned may vary. This position is located in our new West Campus in Auburn Hills, Mi. The Safety Officer is responsible for general security, safety and properly protection duties for Oakland University's West Campus located in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Job Duties

• Patrols assigned area on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
• Examines doors, windows and gates to ensure security; monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
• Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering smoking or carrying forbidden articles.
• Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff and faculty as necessary; provides other public assistance such as lockout services, jump-starts and routine information.
• Monitoring surveillance cameras to watch out for any disruptions or unlawful activities.
• Opening and securing the facility as needed.
