Job summary

Fresno Pacific University seeks a Primary Officer for Campus Safety to protect life and property across campus and satellite locations. You will patrol by vehicle, on foot, and by bicycle, conduct security checks, and manage traffic control to keep the campus safe.

The role requires enforcing policies, collaborating with Student Life, and complying with laws and university standards. A Christian faith commitment is expected; competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid California driver license and ability to operate campus safety vehicle.
  • Must secure a BSIS Security Guard Card.
  • Must complete PC832 (peace officer powers) course.
  • Must obtain BSIS certifications for pepper spray and baton.
  • Must pass Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Must pass Taser certification course.
  • Candidate must be at least 20 years old at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols university property in vehicle or on foot to provide security and traffic control.
  • Performs physical security checks of campus facilities and ensures areas are used by authorized personnel.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency radio calls during shifts.
  • Enforces university policies and assists local law enforcement as needed.
  • Conducts thorough investigations and completes detailed reports.
  • Provides on-campus escorts and assists Student Life and Residence Life staff as required.
  • Acts as CSA Reporter under the Jeanne Clery Act and participates in crime prevention programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief, via chain of command.

Job description

The primary officer's responsibility is to protect the life and property on university property. This may be accomplished by patrol unit, driving carts, on foot, and bicycle patrol of campus roadways, walkways, parking lots, administrative and academic buildings, residential areas on campus, and other satellite locations student housing near campus.

  • Patrols university property, in a vehicle or on foot, to provide security and traffic control.
  • Performs physical security checks of campus facilities, ensuring facilities are in used by appropriate personnel.

  • Beavailableandreadyatanypointduringdutyshifttorespondtocommunityneeds.
  • Observes,reports,andidentifiespersonsinvolvedinsuspiciousactivitiesormanners.Ensuresthatunauthorizedpersonsleavetheuniversityandcommunity.
  • Enforcesuniversitypolicies,regulations,andmunicipal,state,andfederallaws.Assistslocallawenforcementasnecessary.
  • Conductsthoroughinvestigationsasassignedandcompletesdetailedreportsastothose
  • investigations.Participatesincrimepreventionprograms.

  • Must only engage with FPU students in a professional and ethical manner. Must be always productive.
  • Ensure all legal requirements are met for FPU campus parking.
  • Ensure that the Clery Report is completed each year.

Required

  • MustbeabletosuccessfullycompletethePC832(powersofarrest)course.
  • MustbeabletosuccessfullysecuretheappropriateBSIScertificationsforthecarryofpeppersprayandbaton(straight, side-handleandcollapsible).
  • MustbeabletosuccessfullypassandcompleteanAmericanRedCrossFirstaid/CPRandAEDcertificationcourse.
  • Must be able to successfully pass and complete a Taser certification course.
  • Each candidate must be at least 20 years of age by the date of hire.
Preferred
  • CompletionofCaliforniabasicormodularPOSTlevelI/II,orIIIacademy.Mustbewithinthelastthreetofiveyears.

Environmental Conditions
  • Outdoor working environment subject to varying weather conditions, including but not limited to rain, wind, extreme heat, cold, etc.

$35,360 to $42,640 is the annual starting salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, FPU offers a competitive benefits package.
