Job summary

Lake Forest College Public Safety Officer is responsible for protecting students, staff, property, and resources by patrolling designated areas and enforcing policies to maintain a secure environment.

The role involves responding to emergencies, coordinating with local authorities, maintaining logs, and supporting campus safety for employees, residents, and visitors. It is a full-time position with an hourly pay rate of $22.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, GPS tracking, and route planning tools.
• Knowledge of local/state transportation regulations and safety standards.
• Ability to collaborate and cover shifts as needed.
• First aid and CPR knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Safety Patrols: Conduct routine patrols to deter, observe, and report incidents or safety hazards.
• Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies, alarms, and accidents, providing first aid or coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
• Access Control: Monitor and manage access points to prevent unauthorized entry and ensure security protocols are followed.
• Incident Investigation: Conduct preliminary investigations, gather information, and report findings by following the chain of command.
• Public Interaction: Assist and provide information to the public and support community outreach and education on safety practices.
• Law Enforcement: Communicate and team with local organizations such as fire department, police department, city officials and other authorities.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs and reports on patrols and incidents.
• Vehicle Upkeep: Inspect squad vehicles, keep them clean, and report non-compliance.
• Other tasks as assigned.
