Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking a Director of Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness to lead day-to-day safety and emergency readiness for the campus. You will supervise security staff, coordinate with senior leadership, and implement comprehensive emergency plans and drills across the campus.

Collaborating with the Chancellor and executives, you will ensure Clery Act compliance, develop staffing plans, and champion a safe, inclusive campus culture while maintaining alert notification

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must be adept at resolving individual and group conflicts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the recruitment, selection, retention, and development of campus Public Safety staff.
• Provides direct supervision to campus Public Safety staff.
• Works with the Executive Director of Emergency Management and Continuity to implement comprehensive emergency management and business continuity plans on campus.
• Plans, drafts, and executes Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program–compliant drills and exercises.
• Ensures campus compliance with the Clery Act.
• Collaborates to establish a threat and risk-based front-line security staffing plan.
• Provides leadership during campus crises or emergencies and liaises with senior leadership.
• Meets regularly with the campus safety committee to address safety concerns.
• Supports a student- and employee-centered campus culture.
• Maintains campus emergency notification systems.
• Coordinates events with facilities when public safety is needed.
• Meets regularly with AWARE Team.
