Job summary

University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a People & Building Safety Manager within the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) leadership team. The role leads safety programs to reduce risk, oversees training, and partners with Facilities, Housing, Athletics and academic units.

The successful candidate will supervise safety professionals, drive continuous improvement, and ensure OSHA compliance across diverse campus environments. This is a 100% FTE, onsite position with occasional nights.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in health and safety leadership or equivalent.
• Experience delivering safety training to diverse audiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and develop health and safety policies.
• Lead campus-wide safety initiatives and establish metrics.
• Supervise unit staff and direct workflows.
• Coordinate with Facilities, Housing, Athletics, and unions on safety practices.
• Develop OSHA-compliant education modules with campus partners.
• Guide health and safety program alignment with strategic goals.
• Identify and resolve operational safety issues.
