Job description

The University of North Dakota's Wellness & Health Promotion Department seeks a dynamic individual to join our team as a Campus Recreation Coordinator. Applications are being accepted through May 8, 2025, 11:55 pm CST.

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Programs and has direct responsibilities for coordinating the administration, supervision, and safe operation of the comprehensive campus recreation & sports program, including but not limited to recreational intramural sports (ice hockey, basketball, volleyball, etc.) and other recreational programs. Responsibilities include delivering excellent service, ensuring staff coverage, leading/officiating programs, and supervising (hiring, training, developing, reviewing) 40-50 part-time employees. The program supports over 3,000 participants annually, contributing to student recruitment, retention, success, and well-being.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and administer diversified Intramural Rec Sports and Campus Recreation programs.
  2. Plan and administer a Summer Recreation/Wellness Camp.
  3. Coordinate, schedule, and monitor programs for students, faculty, and staff.
  4. Manage and secure facilities/spaces used for programs.
  5. Evaluate programs regularly and make adjustments as needed.
  6. Ensure risk management compliance in all activities.
  7. Hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and supervise student staff.
  8. Process payroll and leave requests efficiently.
  9. Provide leadership, management, mentoring, and empowerment to staff.
  10. Develop and manage annual budgets for operational and program areas.
  11. Familiarize with and apply all departmental policies and procedures.
  12. Model professional and ethical behavior aligned with department values.
  13. Maintain positive relationships within the department, university, and community.
  14. Provide excellent customer service to visitors, students, staff, and faculty.
  15. Contribute to an inclusive work environment by respecting others.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Physical Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in recreation or sports intramurals programming.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of Criminal History Records Check.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related fields.
  • Experience supervising student staff in a collegiate setting.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Experience officiating high school or higher level sports.
  • Knowledge of ice hockey rules and regulations.
  • Experience with esports programs.
