Job summary

Normandale Community College is seeking a Public Safety Officer to create and maintain a safe, welcoming environment on campus. You will patrol, educate the campus community on rules, and respond to emergencies while coordinating with responders. The role supports equity goals and works with student workers in Public Safety.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in security, a related degree, and Minnesota EMSRB certification (EMR/EMT). On-campus daily schedule, with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• At least two (2) years of experience as a Security Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer.
• Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Paralegal or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience; Bachelor’s degree in above areas may substitute for 2 years of experience.
• Ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience on a college/university campus preferred.
• Possess current Minnesota EMSRB certification for EMR or EMT.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to interpret and enforce state laws, Bloomington ordinances, and college policies.
• Knowledge of police practices, use of force guidelines, and loss prevention.
• Experience with fire alarms, access control and CCTV surveillance systems.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
• Educate students, staff, faculty and visitors about rules and policies.
• Warn violators of infractions and enforce campus rules.
• Respond to campus and medical emergencies; coordinate with authorities.
• Complete required recordkeeping and reports.
• Perform dispatch duties as needed.
• Provide training and direction to student workers in Public Safety.
