Job summary

Bowie State University seeks a Lieutenant for the Department of Public Safety/University Police to supervise patrols, investigations, and personnel. The role demands leadership across operations and investigations, ensuring professional service, training, and compliance with university policies.

The Lieutenant supports community engagement, accreditation efforts, and compliance with Clery Act, UCR/NIBRS, and state requirements. Maryland sworn officer certification is required.

Qualifications

• Must be a Maryland sworn police officer or eligible for certification.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible sworn law enforcement experience.
• Supervisory law enforcement experience required; campus/university experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee patrol operations and investigative functions.
• Supervise Sergeants, Corporals, officers and civilian staff.
• Coordinate training, accreditation, and policy development.
