Job summary

Bowie State University is seeking a University Police Lieutenant to lead and oversee patrol operations, investigations, training, and administrative functions within the Department of Public Safety/University Police.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of progressive sworn law enforcement experience.
• Supervisory experience required; Sergeant rank preferred.
• Must be certified or eligible as a Maryland sworn officer.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in criminal justice, public administration, emergency management, or related field.
• Experience with accreditation, Clery Act compliance, UCR/NIBRS desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee patrol operations and investigative functions as assigned.
• Supervise and develop Sergeants, Corporals, and officers.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners on investigations and incidents.
• Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and accreditation standards.
• Lead community engagement and crime prevention initiatives.
