The Campus Police at the Utah State Hospital are recruiting for an open position. The Campus Police are security and enforcement officers responsible for maintaining safety, security, and surveillance at USH. The team also supervises and monitors patients, staff, and visitors, along with materials and equipment within USH. Officers exercise peace officer authority in accordance with the Special Function Officer designation.
Responsibilities of Campus Police:
- Provides building and grounds security; secures buildings and protects against theft, vandalism, inappropriate entry, fire hazards, acts of violence, etc.
- Controls access to institutions, installations, and facilities; checks identification, vehicles, packages, etc. Inspects buildings, grounds, fences, gates, and entrances/exits periodically.
- Enforces laws, rules, and regulations.
- Coordinates law enforcement and investigative efforts with federal, state, and local agencies.
- Monitors activities of residents and visitors, including law enforcement personnel, residents' visitors, and the public.
- Conducts investigations into allegations of inappropriate activities, infractions, or illegal actions.
- Responds to and administers first-aid treatment when needed.
- Drives various vehicles for transportation or delivery purposes.
- Assesses situations and applies appropriate interventions to prevent or resolve crises.
- Communicates with receiving organizations regarding the security and receipt of patients/clients/inmates, following local protocols.
Minimum Requirements:
- POST certification as a Special Functions Officer (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire).
The Preferred Candidate:
- Experience in a hospital or large campus setting.
- Ability to work assigned shifts.
- Positive attitude and team mindset.
- Willingness to be on-call and work overtime.
