Job summary

Prairie View A&M University Police Department seeks a Police Sergeant to oversee the campus police team, manage investigations, and ensure safety across campus. The role requires leadership across patrols, reporting, and coordination with external agencies.

The candidate must hold TX TCOLE intermediate/advanced certification and a Texas class C driver's license or obtain within 30 days; education includes a high school diploma or GED with required college credits and experience.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 45 college credit hours or equivalent experience; substitution rules apply for military service.
  • Minimum law enforcement experience as defined by TCOLE intermediate or higher.
  • TCOLE intermediate or advanced certification required.
  • Texas Class C driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned police officers and personnel.
  • Evaluates, counsels and advises subordinates.
  • Approves subordinate leave.
  • Examines and approves reports and case files submitted by subordinates.
  • Patrols campus and acts as a point of contact for other agencies.
  • Investigates offenses and arrests offenders of State Criminal Law and Transportation Code violations.
  • Testifies in Justice of the Peace Court as well as County and District Courts and student judicial hearings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
