Job summary

Dalton State College seeks a Police Officer to protect the campus community, primarily during the third shift from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The role emphasizes enforcing laws and college policies, responding to incidents, and providing public safety services.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Must be 21 YOA.
• Must be a Georgia Certified Peace Officer or the ability to obtain certification.
• Must maintain a Georgia Certified Peace Officer Certification and other applicable certifications.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Good moral character, good under stressful conditions, good decision making ability.
• Satisfactory results from a criminal background investigation including drug screen, credit check, psychological exam, physical exam, and others.
• Ability to meet and maintain current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Maintains responsibility for security and safety of persons and property (60%).
• Patrols campus on foot and in a vehicle to enforce laws and policies; identify safety issues.
• Responds to crimes in progress, suspicious activity, and calls for service.
• Makes arrests in accordance with laws and procedures; issue citations and warnings.
• Provide traffic direction and escorts; assist motorists as needed.
• Provide first aid and CPR to victims; fills in for emergency dispatcher as needed.
• May assist with training other personnel in policies and procedures.
• Provides security and maintenance of campus buildings (20%).
• Assist with securing/unlocking buildings; check emergency equipment; report issues.
• Assist with investigations and maintain documentation (15%).
• Complete reports and forms; collect and submit evidence; conduct investigations; testify when needed.
• Perform related duties (5%).
