Job summary

Stony Brook University Police Department seeks qualified applicants for security and patrol duties on the Stony Brook or Southampton campuses. The role requires meeting Civil Service prerequisites, maintaining a NYS driver’s license, and readiness for overtime in a full-time capacity.

Selected candidates will respond to emergencies, enforce laws, and complete required training and background checks as part of a comprehensive security program.

Qualifications

• Must have 60 semester credit hours from regionally accredited college/university recognized by NYSED.
• Must have NYS Driver's License and a clean motor vehicle record.
• Must successfully complete a physical/medical examination, psychological evaluation, agility test, background check and police training.
• Must be able to perform mandatory overtime.
• Positions can be in Stony Brook or Southampton campuses.

Responsibilities

• Responds to calls for assistance to protect persons and property.
• Respond to situations including burglaries, robberies, thefts, trespass, assault, medical emergencies.
• Regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic and may enforce traffic laws.
• Walks or drives patrol area to deter crime, and prepares various reports and logs.
