Job description

Campus Pastor: St Moses Church (Saint Mo’s)

Job Description:

Overview

Saint Mo’s is an 8-year-old multi-ethnic church plant in the heart of Baltimore City. We stand in the deep center-current of historic Christianity. Our current building is located in a neighborhood where people from multiple backgrounds converge. We enjoy a strong reputation among churches in Baltimore for collaboration, generosity, deep community, vibrant worship, and rigorous preaching.

We are looking for a full-time Campus Pastor (man or woman) to help launch and lead a new campus (see below). This person will be an ardent follower of Jesus with deep cultural intelligence, a heart for people (serving and leading them), and the ability to envision and build new, healthy organizations in a team setting. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

The new campus (St Moses Church, Hamilton) is being established in a cluster of neighborhoods (Hamilton and Lauraville) in northeast Baltimore City, MD. These neighborhoods are a meeting point for people from a range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. The area adjoins Morgan State University, one of the leading HBCUs in the nation and sits along one of the few major north-south arteries connecting the city and the county to the north.

We hope that the best bits of Saint Mo’s culture, as it currently exists, are transplanted into the new church. We want the new church to be welcoming and vibrant, reflecting the diversity of the community. The music will be contemporary but connected to the great tradition of Christian worship. The theology will continue to stand in the deep center current of historic Christianity and will be evangelical in the historical sense of emphasizing the authority of the Bible, the centrality of the Cross of Christ, the importance of turning toward God for salvation, and lives lived deliberately in the Way of Jesus. The proximity to a major university means that we will aim consistently to preach in a manner that is compelling for students and faculty. The proximity to physical needs means that we will aim consistently to serve the community with the resources we have available.

Campus Pastor Responsibilities
  1. Together with the lead pastor, champion and lead the establishment of the new church.
  2. Oversee weekly worship.
  3. Together with the Community Engagement Pastor, oversee outreach and strategic partnerships in surrounding neighborhoods.
  4. Preach semi-regularly across two campuses.
  5. Oversee discipleship at your campus.
  6. Set weekly, monthly, and annual goals for leadership and for the areas of supervision.
  7. Attend staff functions (meetings, events, staff retreats, and training).
  8. Work with volunteer team leaders to recruit, develop, and train volunteers for necessary teams.
  9. Together with the pastoral team, provide pastoral oversight for weekly worship services, regular sacraments, weddings, and funerals as needed.
Qualifications
  1. Committed follower of Jesus.
  2. Demonstrated track record of building effective teams.
  3. Biblical qualifications for church leadership (see 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, Acts 6).
  4. Gifted shepherd.
  5. Significant training in the Christian faith, whether formal or informal (all equivalencies to seminary degree considered).
  6. Strong or teachable preacher.
  7. Able to envision and start new initiatives with a team, from the ground up.
  8. Equipped for a fast-paced, self-starting (highly entrepreneurial and resourceful) work environment that requires frequent shifts between tactical and strategic thinking.
  9. Excellent communication skills.
  10. Able to recruit and develop volunteers.
  11. Able administrator.
  12. Cross-cultural and cross-generational intelligence.

  2. Resume covering relevant training, experience, and work/education history.
  3. Two video recordings of you preaching.
