Job description

Campus Operations & Transportation Associate

Campus Operations & Transportation Associate

Reports To: Campus Operations Manager / Central Office Operations

Location: Center City Public Charter Schools – Assigned Campus

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, 10 Month

School Overview

Center City Public Charter Schools (Center City PCS) empowers our students for lifelong success by building strong character, promoting academic excellence, and generating public service throughout Washington, D.C.

To support this mission, we are committed to attracting, developing, and retaining one of the District's best staff teams. Center City staff mentor and lead students to maximize their potential. Our network serves more than 1,400 students annually across six campuses in Washington, D.C.

Position Overview

Center City Public Charter Schools seeks a dependable, flexible, safety-focused professional to serve as a Campus Operations & Transportation Associate. This hybrid position combines student transportation with hands‑on campus operations support.

Transportation is the primary responsibility of this position and accounts for about 60% of the role. The Associate will transport students between Center City campuses, the MakerSpace, field trips, athletic events, and other approved destinations. The Associate will also serve as transportation backup when the network needs additional coverage.

When not assigned to transportation duties, the Associate will be based at an assigned Center City campus and provide approximately 40% operational support under the direction of the Campus Operations Manager and campus leadership. This work may include facilities support, inventory and deliveries, campus setup, operational projects, and other activities that contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the school.

Transportation assignments take priority over campus-based responsibilities when scheduling conflicts occur. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable safely transporting students throughout the DMV and providing hands‑on operational support within a school environment.

Key Responsibilities
Transportation – Approximately 60%

Safely transport students between Center City campuses, the MakerSpace, field trips, athletic events, and other approved destinations.

Remain available during the established workday to meet assigned transportation needs.

Serve as backup for other network drivers during absences, cancellations, scheduling gaps, or other transportation needs.

Perform required pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report safety, maintenance, or mechanical concerns.

Maintain a clean, organized, and mechanically sound bus.

Ensure assigned vehicles are appropriately fueled and ready for scheduled routes.

Comply with all traffic laws, safety regulations, licensing requirements, and Center City transportation policies and procedures.

Ensure student safety and supervision during transport, and assist students with boarding and exiting the bus as needed.

Complete routes safely and on time, and promptly communicate any traffic, mechanical, or other issues that may affect the schedule.

Maintain required transportation documentation and records.

Promptly report accidents, citations, vehicle damage, or other incidents involving a Center City vehicle.

Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, staff, families, chaperones, and other members of the school community.

Attend required transportation, safety, and organizational trainings.

Support transportation‑related logistics, vehicle readiness, and other transportation projects when not actively driving.

Campus Operations Support – Approximately 40%

When not assigned to transportation duties, the Associate will support the daily operations of their assigned campus. Responsibilities may include:

Receive, organize, move, and distribute campus deliveries and materials.

Maintain organized supply, equipment, and storage areas.

Assist with campus inventory and tracking of supplies, furniture, equipment, and other operational resources.

Conduct basic facilities walkthroughs and communicate maintenance, cleanliness, safety, or repair needs to the Campus Operations Manager.

Submit and/or assist with tracking facilities work orders as directed.

Assist with setting up and breaking down spaces for school events, meetings, programs, and other campus activities.

Support arrival and dismissal operations when transportation assignments permit.

Assist with field trip and event logistics.

Move supplies, equipment, and other materials within the campus or between Center City locations as needed.

Assist with basic technology and device inventory, organization, and distribution as directed.

Support enrollment, recruitment, and other campus events as needed.

Receive and distribute campus mail and packages as needed.

Provide basic administrative and project support, including copying, organizing documents, entering data, and preparing materials when time permits.

Assist the Campus Operations Manager with other operational projects that can reasonably be completed around the transportation schedule.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the safe and efficient operation of the campus and transportation program.

Role Priorities and Flexibility

Transportation is the primary function of this position. Campus‑based operational responsibilities provide meaningful, productive work between transportation assignments and may be adjusted based on daily and network transportation needs.

Although the Associate will have an assigned home campus, the position supports Center City PCS as a network. Drivers may be assigned to transportation needs originating from other campuses and locations based on operational need.

The employee must transition between transportation and campus responsibilities throughout the workday and manage changing priorities with professionalism and flexibility.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate school bus and passenger endorsements required.

Clean driving record and ability to meet all Center City PCS and regulatory requirements for operating a school bus.

Ability to pass required background checks and drug screenings.

Previous school bus operating experience preferred.

Previous experience working with children, schools, facilities, operations, logistics, customer service, or a related environment preferred.

Strong reliability, punctuality, and attendance.

Ability to carry out assigned routes safely and on time.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to follow established procedures and complete assigned tasks with limited supervision.

Comfortable using email, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and learning basic school operational systems.

Ability to manage changing priorities and transition between driving and campus responsibilities throughout the workday.

Ability to work collaboratively with Campus Operations Managers, school leaders, Central Office staff, and other transportation employees.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical tasks associated with receiving deliveries, moving materials, organizing supplies, and supporting campus setup.

Commitment to providing safe, reliable service to Center City students and campuses.
