Job summary

Aspire Public Schools in Oakland is seeking a Campus Monitor to observe and support students during lunch and passing breaks, ensuring a safe, secure and comfortable environment conducive to student interaction and learning.

The successful candidate will supervise during lunch/recess; enforce rules; assist with conflict mediation; provide first aid; and help maintain a clean, safe campus. Bilingual in Spanish and English is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with children of all ages.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR training required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during lunch/recess and passing periods, enforcing rules and behavior expectations.
  • Ensure a safe environment in the lunchroom, school grounds and parking lot.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure adequate supervision coverage.
  • Mediate and resolve conflicts between students.
  • Administer first aid as needed.
  • Manage computer logs and complete accident reports.
  • Help keep the campus clean.
  • Identify hazards and ensure safety rules are followed.

JOB SUMMARY

The Campus Monitor observes and supports students during lunch and passing breaks to ensure a safe, secure and comfortable environment conducive to student interaction and learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supervise students during lunch/recess and passing periods, including enforcing school rules school boundaries, and school behavior expectations
  • Ensure a safe environment in the lunchroom, school grounds and parking lot
  • Work with other school staff to ensure sufficient level of supervision coverage in all areas of the lunch room, school yards and parking lot
  • Help mediate and resolve conflicts between students
  • Administer first aid as needed
  • Manage computer logs and complete accident reports
  • Help keep the campus clean
  • Identify any major security or safety hazards and major repair needs in the recess area and ensure safety rules are followed

Perform other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Good verbal and written communication skills

Good problem solving ability; sound judgment

Ability to interact appropriately with children of all ages

Bilingual - Spanish and English (strongly preferred).

Minimum educational level:

High school diploma or equivalent

First Aid and valid CPR training

Experience required:

1+ years experience observing and supervising K-12 students preferred

Ongoing behavior management and de-escalation training

Physical requirements:
  • Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
  • Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
  • Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides
  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (most update every four years)
