Job summary

Laurel Ridge Community College is seeking a part-time Law Enforcement Officer I to protect life and property across multiple campus locations and enforce laws of the Commonwealth within the college's jurisdiction. The role emphasizes preventative and responsive policing in a community-oriented service model.

Offsets include varying shifts (days, evenings, weekends) and the potential for educational benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be Virginia DCJS certified law enforcement officer or eligible for recertification within 120 days.
• Must maintain DCJS certification and complete in-service education requirements.
• Ability to function under stress and in emergency situations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of law enforcement, security, safety concepts, and customer service practices.
• Ability to safely handle weapons and qualify annually per DCJS standards.
• Ability to operate a department motor vehicle safely.
• Ability to give clear oral and written instructions to elicit compliance.
• Ability to gather information and write factual reports.
• Must pass background checks and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Protect life and property on the Laurel Ridge Community College campus.
• Enforce laws within jurisdictional confines and uphold college rules.
• Respond to emergencies and collaborate with campus partners.
• Travel between multiple Laurel Ridge locations as needed.
• Support a community-policing model and develop partnerships.
