Job summary

North Carolina Central University seeks a skilled supervisor to manage the campus HVAC maintenance shop. The role coordinates daily activities, oversees repairs and installations, and ensures safe, efficient operation of heating and cooling systems across NCCU facilities.

The position involves training staff, monitoring budgets, and coordinating with project managers and contractors on special projects, with on-call duties as needed in a historic Black university community in Durham, NC.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration, NEC and applicable regulations.
• Ability to interpret and communicate complex projects using blueprints or technical drawings.
• Plan, organize, and layout work assignments from sketches, specifications, and verbal direction.
• Skilled in electrical metering devices and standard HVAC equipment.
• Experience supervising staff and coordinating work.
• Knowledge of enterprise systems (Banner) and MS Office.
• Ability to monitor budgets and manage resources effectively.
• Ability to work independently with initiative and good judgment.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends and events.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the maintenance shop for HVAC systems.
• Plan daily work activities, define duties, and complete evaluations.
• Train staff and organize formal training as needed; monitor budgets and order materials.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems and components; oversee installation and replacement.
• Ensure accurate work orders, testing reports, and required documentation; participate in on-call rotations.
• Oversee contractors and collaborate with project managers on repairs and special projects.
