Job summary

The University of Michigan is seeking a highly experienced University Fire Marshal/Fire Safety Services Manager to coordinate and supervise the campus fire prevention program, investigations, and related services. You will provide leadership, develop standards, and guide construction projects with AEC and MBFS involvement to ensure compliance and safety across UM Ann Arbor facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in fire science, engineering, chemical sciences, or related field or equivalent combination.
• Fire Inspector I certification and International Fire Code Certification; six years of fire science experience.
• Ability to work effectively with others and to prepare reports.
• Knowledge of modern fire prevention principles and building codes related to fire safety.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise fire safety services, including prevention programs and investigations.
• Develop and publish standardized fire/life safety policies and guidelines for campus use.
• Provide training and drills in fire/life safety for departments and staff.
• Lead building commissioning and pre-commissioning inspections for MBFS and non-MBFS projects.
• Coordinate with AEC, Ann Arbor Fire Department, and MBFS during projects and inspections.
• Prepare annual fire/life safety activity summaries for university leadership.
