Job summary

The Area Manager for the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) is responsible for complete facility management of 8 buildings, 225,000 square feet and a budget of 2.6 million. The role includes campus operations, safety compliance, vendor management, and coordination with Harvard departments to ensure a secure, high-functioning environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced education and/or technical training beyond highschool.
• 8+ years' experience in the management of physical facilities, including staff and/or vendor supervision experience.
• Demonstrated experience with building automated control systems including security and HVAC.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to assess needs, set priorities, and deal with stressful situations.
• Computer skills including work order systems, daily maintenance, invoice processing, budget and payroll management.
• Experience supervising staff and working with diverse student populations is valued.

Responsibilities

• Oversees maintenance & operations to provide a safe home for graduate and undergraduate students.
• Interacts with residents, faculty, and staff to respond to building issues promptly.
• Manages budget, vendor selection, and relationships with Harvard departments.
• Directs day-to-day activities of custodial staff, building trades, and contractors.
• Maintains building security, access control, and safety systems; coordinates inspections and compliance.
