Job summary

American School for the Deaf seeks a General Laborer to support the Campus Maintenance Department across the Main Campus in West Hartford, CT. The role includes moving, setup, basic maintenance, and grounds tasks to keep the campus safe and welcoming for students and staff.

The General Laborer works independently and with the Facilities team, assisting technicians as needed. Candidates should have a high school diploma and a willingness to learn ASL.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in general labor, facilities, custodial services, or related field preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor and maintenance support across campus.
• Move furniture and equipment between campus locations.
• Assist with room setups and event breakdowns.
• Perform basic grounds maintenance and property upkeep.
• Assist with snow and ice removal as needed.
• Load and unload materials and deliveries.
• Safely operate basic hand and power tools with training.
• Report safety hazards to a supervisor.
• Maintain clean and orderly facilities spaces and shops.
• Support campus operations during emergencies or weather events.
