Southern Utah University is seeking a Reserve Student Guard to support campus safety during student and athletic events. You will assist campus police with crowd control and security operations.

This part-time role requires flexible hours, strong vigilance, and clear communication to guide attendees and document incidents in outdoor environments. You may also cover regular guard shifts when needed and help with building lockups and patrols.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work flexible hours around event schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays.
• Strong situational awareness to patrol event spaces independently or with a security team.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to direct attendees and represent campus safety.
• Dependable, trustworthy, calm under pressure and honest.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to stand, walk, and patrol on foot for extended periods outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Crowd & Area Monitoring: Patrol event perimeters, venues, and athletic facilities to observe surroundings and maintain a visible safety presence.
• Traffic & Access Control: Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic before, during, and after events and manage entry points.
• Shift Coverage: Fill open shifts for regular Student Security Guards, including building lockups and night patrols.
• Incident Reporting: Promptly identify and report safety hazards, damage, rule violations, or suspicious activity to the duty officer or police personnel.
• Documentation: Maintain clear, concise logs of shift activities and notable events.
