Job summary

RISD is seeking a Custodian to join the Custodial & Grounds team in Providence. The role supports campus safety and cleanliness, including classrooms, labs, and residential areas. You will sanitize high-touch surfaces, dispose of waste, and assist with events as needed.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (preferred), one year of related experience, and basic computer skills. RISD offers a competitive benefits package and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalency (preferred).
• One year of related work experience desired.
• Ability to operate cleaning machines and use cleaning products.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to attend training (e.g., Workday).

Responsibilities

• Keep classrooms, lavatories, and hallways disinfected, clean and orderly.
• Sweep, mop, and polish floors, operate machinery to strip and wax floors, and operate vacuum cleaner to maintain rugs.
• Dust furniture, sills, etc.; ensure dispensers (soap and paper) are filled.
• Remove trash, recycling, and litter.
• Replace light bulbs as needed; move furniture and light equipment as required.
• Sweep and shovel steps and distribute sand/salt in snow.
• Check emergency lighting and fire extinguishers monthly.
• Prepare areas for classes and special events as directed by supervisor.
