Job summary

Peralta Community College District in Oakland, CA is seeking a shift supervisor for the Community Safety Department. The role provides security and protection to students, staff, equipment and property, enforces laws, and supervises assigned personnel including dispatchers and cadets.

Qualifications

• Possess a California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate and three years of full-time law enforcement experience.
• Associate's degree or 60 units; or relevant experience in lieu of a degree; P.O.S.T. Intermediate preferred.
• Pass a comprehensive background check, psychological exam, polygraph, and medical exam.
• Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid California Driver's License.
• Knowledge of safety, investigation, codes, and de‑escalation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a supervisor for the Community Safety Department and supervise staff.
• Supervise and evaluate performance; schedule shifts to maintain operations.
• Conduct training and briefing sessions for department meetings.
• Respond to calls, make arrests, prepare reports, and appear in court as needed.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports related to activities and personnel.
• Intervene in student-instructor disputes and conduct safety presentations.
