Job summary

Wright State University is seeking a part-time Communications Operator to maintain campus dispatch communications. You will monitor radio channels, receive and transmit messages for police, maintenance and public safety, and log incidents accurately.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass background checks. The 60% FTE position pays about $21.97 per hour, with potential review during employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Excellent interpersonal/public relations and verbal/written communication skills required.
• Background investigation may be required; valid U.S. driver’s license for at least one year is required.

Responsibilities

• Receives and transmits radio communications dispatching personnel and equipment for local Police and Fire Departments, WSU Police Department, Maintenance, Parking Services, etc., operates telecommunication equipment, maintains records and logs dispatching operations.
• Receives and records all telephone calls and issues criminal and non-criminal incident reports when necessary.
• Maintains police dispatch call log and other logs related to law enforcement functions and service-related activities using Computer-Aided Dispatching; greets and assists the general public and university community.
• Operates telecommunication computer terminal receiving and transmitting messages related to police and motor vehicle matters; monitors maintenance and security alarm systems; maintains security of Dispatch Center; issues and checks in equipment and keys.
• Inspects communications equipment and reports malfunctions; prepares reports and correspondence as required.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
