Job summary

The University of New Mexico seeks an Arborist to join the Landscaping Services team on the Albuquerque campus. You will perform arboricultural practices including planting, pruning, disease/pest management, and long-term tree care to sustain the university’s urban forest.

Responsibilities include maintaining tree health, safety, and inventory, training staff and volunteers, and contributing to a nationally recognized arboretum campus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of related experience.
• Completion of higher degrees above minimum education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• ISA Arborist certification and NM Pesticide License are preferred and should be obtained within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

• Repairs, cables, fertilizes, waters, and prunes trees and woody plants; remove dead or diseased specimens.
• Plant and transplant woody plants including hole prep, backfilling, staking, pruning, watering and mulching.
• Identify diseases and insect problems and apply appropriate treatments.
• May assist in maintenance activities as required.
• Maintain records of work performed.
• Lead/train staff, students, interns, and volunteers as appropriate.
• Assist in maintaining tree inventory records.
• Identify hazardous trees and related problems.
• May perform snow removal when needed.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
