POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the supervision and safety of a group of campers. Assists with the planning and implementation of activities to meet the camp curriculum requirements. Is a proactive and supportive team member in meeting quality and customer service initiatives. Demonstrates the Y's commitment to its core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring in all actions to serve as a role model. Position is seasonal but will require up to 40 hours of pre-season training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Follow all policies and procedures for maintaining supervision of campers at all times.
  • Assist with daily pre-camp set-up, clean-ups through the day, and post-camp breakdown.
  • Assist with planning of daily activities to meet all curricula and scheduling requirements.
  • Implements activities, participating and engaging with campers, (including being in the pool during designated swim times) creating a quality experience.
  • Reports to work on time, and in uniform for all scheduled shifts , including weekly and/or other designated meetings
  • Promotes positive character values in a caring camp environment
  • Assist in special program areas and activities including but not limited to: waterfront, pool, nature, camp-wide activities, arts and crafts, ropes, marksmanship, homestead and horses as directed. (as applicable by camp)
  • Works to maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Drive Y minibus for teen camp field trip purposes as applicable/needed
  • All o ther duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate will be

  • a highly energetic team player,
  • able and willing to fully participate in all aspects of the camp day and activities
  • able to learn and follow all policies and procedures in order to provide a safe program
  • good with communication skills
  • at least 21 years of age
  • At least one camp season working with youth, or related experience
  • Attend all training and meetings within designated time frame
  • be eligible to complete the Y in Central Maryland drivers training to operate mini bus
