Camp St. Criox Cook (Healthcare)

Are you passionate about serving others? Do you have a commitment to compassion and excellence? Do you work in food service and LOVE providing youth and adults with delicious and HEALTHY meals? Join us at the Y in delivering nutrition and mission as kitchen staff and server in our kitchen!

The kitchen staff and server role includes assisting in the preparation of healthy and nutritious meals for participants, maintaining appropriate health standards, and serving. The kitchen staff and server will also set tables, clear tables, wash dishes, and perform other cleaning as needed in the kitchen. Experience working with food allergies and diverse populations is a plus!

Kitchen and server staff may work early mornings (breakfast), afternoons (lunch), evenings (dinner), and some weekends depending on kitchen needs.

As a kitchen and server staff, you must enjoy a fun and interactive work environment, live entertainment (camp songs, etc.), and engaging with kids! Reliable transportation is required as some locations are remote.

The salary for this position starts at $16.00 hourly. Salary may vary based on background and experience. The compensation package includes benefits and earned time off, which depend on part-time or full-time status.

1. Job Summary

The Cook prepares healthy and nutritious meals for participants, maintains health standards, and manages food supply levels. The incumbent may provide work direction to kitchen staff and dishwashers as needed.

2. Essential Functions
  • Prepares healthy meals for participants and groups.
  • Participates in menu planning to meet nutritional and dietary needs.
  • Maintains clean and safe kitchen areas according to health regulations.
  • Assists with purchasing and inventory of food supplies.
  • Provides work direction to kitchen staff and dishwashers.
  • Practices personal hygiene and food handling safety.
3. Relationships

This position reports to the Food Service Manager, Executive Director, or Program Director. The incumbent interacts with participants, the public, staff, and volunteers, and provides work direction as needed.

4. Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • At least one (1) year of food preparation experience
  • Ability to obtain Food Safe Certification
  • Completion of YMCA First Aid and CPR certifications upon hire
  • Knowledge of kitchen procedures and food safety
  • Effective communication skills
  • Desire to work with camp staff and youth

Preferred:

  • Education in nutrition
  • Alignment with YMCA's mission and philosophy
5. Work Conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely
  • Stand for long periods
