The Salvation Army is seeking a Camp Security Guard for the summer camp season. The role involves ensuring the safety of camp facilities and monitoring camper behavior. Applicants should have experience in security or social services and be capable of responding to emergencies. This seasonal position requires physical endurance and a commitment to the camp's mission.
Job Summary
Monitors and ensures the safety and well-being of camp facilities and buildings to ensure compliance with housing rules and policies and to protect the safety of camp staff and children.
Essential Functions: Ensures buildings are unlocked in the morning for camp activities. Ensures all staff and campers are in their quarters by curfew and remain in their personal living quarters throughout the night. Secures and locks all buildings after curfew. Monitors camp facilities throughout the night. Maintains the security of all sleeping areas and buildings by conducting security checks throughout the night. Keeps a security log of all incidents, which is to be turned into the Camp Director each morning, highlighting any incidents requiring immediate attention. Serves as a transport person for emergency trips. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of security practices and procedures. Ability to influence and control human behavior and enforce security rules and guidelines. Ability to respond to emergencies calmly and effectively. Ability to communicate and work with groups of varying age and skill levels, providing necessary instructions to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory acuity to identify and respond to hazards. Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergencies, including assisting in first aid, and the strength and endurance to supervise campers continuously.
Education and Experience
Six months experience working with the public, preferably in security or social services, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid and current State Driver’s License. CPR and First Aid Certification.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Endurance activities such as climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate security equipment. Normal hearing and eyesight to record, communicate, and monitor activities. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours during the program duration.
Additional Information
Camp Staff Orientation will be held from 6/9/2025 to 6/15/2025, and participation is mandatory. The 2025 Summer Camp runs from 6/16/2025 to 7/19/2025. If unable to work the entire session, please specify on your application.
