Job Title: Camp Prep-Cook


FLSA Status: Part Time, Temporary - Exempt
Reports to: Camp Cook


Schedule: Varies


Supervises: N/A


Rate of Pay: $375 weekly - 8 weeks


Closing Date: 05/27/2025


Benefits: Standard; Part-Time, Temporary, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:


Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time hours.)


Function: Ensure all aspects of food service comply with guest needs, Salvation Army policy, state and local laws. Supervise and schedule kitchen staff, cooking and cleanliness. Placing of all orders necessary to Food Service representatives. Ensure dining and kitchen areas are prepared for incoming guest and cleaned promptly after each meal conforming to maximum sanitary and safety standards. Responsible for overall appearance of kitchen, dining room and kitchen personnel. Responsible for a clean, safe and properly supplied kitchen, dining room and storage areas. Work as needed in other departments, may include, snow removal, carpentry, painting, maintenance & guest services.


Duties and Responsibilities:


GENERAL DUTIES:



  • Attend and participate in evening programs and spiritual activities.

  • Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and in living quarters.

  • Assist with the clean-up of the total camp at the end of each session and at the conclusion of the summer.

  • Assist with evening cabin activities.

  • Attend and participate in Staff Orientation.

  • Attend and participate in all camp-wide activities, campfires, staff meetings and staff devotions

  • Assist with Camper check-in and check-out.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:


Safety and Supervision



  • Enforce, and abide by, all camp policies and procedures

  • Responsible for the health and well-being of self and campers.

  • Maintain the utmost level of safety for staff and campers at all times.

  • Practice and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures.

    • Maintain group/staff control at specialized group activities so that other support staff can focus on safety.



  • Ensure compliance with American Camping Association standards of safety and programmatic conduct at all times.

  • Coordinate and implement all program components relative to the daily schedule in a timely fashion.

  • Attend relevant in-service trainings.


Weekly Responsibilities



  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness.

  • Prepare meals for the High Peak Camp campers and staff.

  • Assist in meal preparation and service.

  • Assist in the stocking of food, meal planning, and meal preparation.

  • Attend and participate in Staff Orientation

  • Attend and participate in all camp wide activities, campfires, staff meetings and staff devotions, when able

  • Assist kitchen supervisor in all duties.

  • Assist in maintaining all functions a kitchen requires.

  • Maintain proper cleanliness and sanitation standards in all areas of the kitchen.

  • Perform all other duties and roles assigned.

    • Due to the particular nature of the camp program in session, you may be asked to assist in duties not directly related to this specific job description. This is necessary for the smooth operation of the camp. Staff members are expected to comply with all reasonable requests.

Qualification and Education Requirements:



  • Positive attitude and ability to take a leadership role.

  • 21+ years of age preferred.

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (may be obtained on site).

  • Experience and previous knowledge of camp activities.

  • Ability to use positive behavior management techniques with campers and an ability to adapt to difficult situations with a sense of maturity and safety.

  • Maintain a high standard of personal and communal living and behaviors.

  • Be supportive of The Salvation Army's mission. Ability to reflect and model the high standards of our organization as one of the world's most distinguished human services charitable organizations.
