Summary: Perform duties related to, but not limited to, building, equipment, and grounds maintenance, assisting with camp rentals, general, and any combination of administrative tasks to support the successful operation of Camp Cann-Edi-On. Duties are performed on an established schedule. Requires living on-site, year-round.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
In lieu of rent, the following duties will be the responsibility of the Camp Caretaker and include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Living at Camp Cann-Edi-On in the camp house, providing monitoring for the camp property. Reporting all illegal acts of vandalism, burglary, trespassing, etc., to the proper authorities and the Chief Operating Officer.
- Expectation to maintain the camp house, keep it clean and operational, and maintain the grounds around it. Refer to the “Residential Lease Agreement” for more details.
- Cut and trim grass weekly in areas immediately surrounding the camp house, recreation hall, pool, pool bath house/locker rooms, and pool mechanical room, as the season requires.
- Snow removal is required for houses and access to other properties as the season requires. Communication with the Chief Operating Officer to determine the need for professional snow removal.
- Provide well management to ensure that the camp water flows properly to all buildings and facilities and is safe to drink while collaborating with the YWCA contracted vendor and state regulatory agencies.
- Inspect buildings and grounds daily.
- Lock all building doors, windows, gates, etc., daily.
- Work with the Chief Operating Officer to plan, organize, and implement Camp Clean Up days before, during, and after the camp season.
- Inventory, label, store, and secure all camp equipment, i.e., kayaks, canoes, paddles, life jackets, sports equipment, play equipment, and pool equipment, at the end of the summer camp season
- During rentals, act as a resource for renters in case of emergency. The caretaker must be accessible to renters during the rental time or have made prior arrangements for coverage.
- Clean, stock, and inspect buildings before rentals to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness of the rented facility.
- Replenish restroom supplies (soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue)
- Inspect buildings after each rental to determine if they are left in the required condition.
- Maintain camp buildings (Wolf Lodge, Rec Hall, Arts Building, Dining Hall, Bath Houses/Locker Rooms, Restrooms)
- Vacuuming, wet and dry mopping hard surface floors, cleaning, dusting furniture, mirrors, interior and 1 st -floor exterior glass windows, cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, emptying and sanitizing waste baskets
- Safely use and maintain power and hand tools, such as vacuums, brooms, mops, squeegees, pressure washers, lawn mowers, and trimmers.
- Use of ladders up to 20 feet in height.
- On occasion, exterior cleaning (sidewalks, steps, entranceways, etc.) will be required.
- Identify and handle minor repairs to buildings and structures (including, but not limited to, repairing door hinges, door knobs, window locks, screen repairs, and painting in A-frames, dining hall, recreation hall, craft hall, pool shower rooms, lodge, caretaker house, and bathhouses).
- Check buildings and furnishings weekly; report major repairs to the Facilities Manager.
- Order supplies through the supervisor as appropriate.
- Ensure fire extinguishers and detectors are serviced and in working order.
- Order heating oil and propane as needed.
- Keep walking trails maintained and free of litter and debris.
- Keep the area near the waste receptacle clean and free of litter and debris.
- Keep maintenance tools (i.e., mower, trimmers, miscellaneous power tools, drills, and hand tools) and supplies in good working order and stored/secured in designated areas.
- Keep the tool room/workshop clean, orderly, and secure.
- Maintain an inventory of maintenance tools and supplies for loss prevention.
- Consistently demonstrate safe work practices involving proactive measures and established procedures to ensure a secure and healthy workplace.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
A high school diploma or general education degree is preferred.
A valid PA Driver’s License is required.
PA State Police, PA ChildLine, and FBI clearances are required.
Job Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Working knowledge of principles, practices, and safe and proper usage of tools and equipment related to general buildings and grounds maintenance.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
- It may require driving in inclement weather.
- Ability to stand or walk a high percentage of the time. Job duties involve repetitive motions such as bending, stooping, twisting, and crouching.
- Many duties will be performed outdoors, and they will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
- Duties require ladder use up to 20 feet in height.
