Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Camp EMT is responsible for providing first aid, supervising medications, and addressing medical concerns for campers and staff during the Summer Day Camp.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide medical services to campers and staff following standards from the YMCA, insurance, NYS Department of Health, and the American Camping Association.
- Ensure safety for all campers and staff, including personal well-being and assisting with health concerns.
- Arrange medical treatment for campers and staff as needed.
- Know safety measures and emergency procedures.
- Maintain complete records and reports as required by relevant authorities.
- Keep an inventory of medical supplies, ensuring they are functional and stocked.
- Collaborate with camp directors to review camper records regarding medical, social, and physical needs.
- Assist campers needing extra help and communicate with staff and the Camp Director to implement action plans.
- Attend pre-camp trainings, meetings, and events.
- Handle and record camper issues promptly and professionally, including parent communication.
- Support camp field trips requiring extra supervision.
- Promote hygiene practices in accordance with CDC guidelines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred.
- RTE Certification required.
- Minimum one year of EMT experience, preferably in a summer day camp setting.
- Current Paramedic or EMT and CPR Professional Rescuers certifications or equivalent required.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
