Job Description

The Summer Camp Counselor provides direct supervision of children in a seasonal summer camp. The role involves creating positive relationships with children and building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.

Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; college preferred.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting.
  • Experience in outdoor living, camping, music, theatre, sports, aquatics, or recreational games is preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification – training provided.
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
Essential Functions
  • Supervise children and assist in providing a quality program.
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans supporting various enrichment areas.
  • Plan culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Maintain program areas and ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Build positive relationships and communicate effectively with parents and staff.
  • Ensure camper safety and participate actively with children.
  • Follow YMCA policies, including safety, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain daily records and attend staff meetings.
Physical & Work Environment

Must perform physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting. Work involves daytime hours and travel to program sites.

Clearances & Requirements
  • PA Criminal Record Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Certification
  • FBI (DHS) Fingerprinting
