Position Summary

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the safety of the children enrolled in the program.
  • Document and respond to all participate incidents.
  • Maintain essential records and attendance sheets.
  • Complete required reports.
  • Maintain current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and BBP Blood Bourne Pathogens.
  • Provide guidance and assistance during activities.
  • Prepare/ follow assigned curriculum.
  • Maintain discipline of children.
  • Ensure necessary supplies, including First Aid, BBP protective equipment.
  • Maintain rapport with parents and participants.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand written directions
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school Diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Previous experience working or participating in any sports program.
  • Previous work experience working with children is preferred.

Certification(s) And Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must complete concussion training prior to working in a sports related activity.
  • CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must receive ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) licensing certification within 30 days of hire. (for licensed camps only)

Technical Skills And Knowledge

  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission, cause of the YMCA, and uphold its values and ethics.
  • Ability to work effectively work with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process:/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective services(696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management and human resources department (s).
