Job description

THE PROGRAM:

Upward Bound is a federally funded educational opportunity program that prepares eligible high school students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The 6-week program includes academic, cultural, and recreational activities.

POSITION:

Must monitor Upward Bound students while on campus, to promote educational aspiration and performance; supervise students' free time; lead small groups, including planning and facilitating educational, cultural, and recreational events; maintain communication with academic staff regarding students' progress in classes; assume responsibility for one assigned aspect of residence hall program; handle routine discipline problems; provide tutoring and advising to individuals and groups of students; assist in monitoring the Food and Nutrition Program; promote a community of mutual respect and trust. Multiple camp counselors/mentors will be hired for the May 27th to June 27th, 2025, Summer Program. There is mandatory training during the week of May 12th.

REQUIREMENTS:

College sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduates (by the beginning of the summer program). Solid academic record and excellent people skills are required, and experience supervising youth is preferred. Experience leading small groups and tutoring is desirable.

COMPENSATION:

$1200 for the six-week program (Monday through Friday each week), including mandatory advance training and planning time; six hours paid tuition, valued at $1083 (Tuition waiver for current Cameron students that are residents of Oklahoma).
