Qualifications

Job Summary

Plans, implements, coordinates, and supervises an assigned group of children and youth; promotes quality of programs and safety of campers at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to campers; promotes and stimulates camper participation; coordinates and leads campers through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility; supervises campers during unscheduled program time and evenings; ensures compliance with camp rules and regulations at all times.

Essential Functions

  1. Participates in regular camp worship meetings and times of prayer.
  2. Leads devotional activities with campers in cabin.
  3. Prays with campers as needed and accompanies campers who come to the alter during the closing worship meeting at the end of the camp session.
  4. Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled activities and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
  5. Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
  6. Participates in regular camp worship meetings.
  7. Reads devotional to campers in cabin when necessary.
  8. Participates in times of prayer.
  9. Performs necessary ministry functions, such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with campers, or leading in Christian songs.
  10. Supervises cabin clean up and work details.
  11. Coordinates and leads youth through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility.
  12. Lives with a group of campers and helps each camper adjust and get to know other campers and camp life.
  13. Interprets and maintains camper compliance with camp rules and health regulations.
  14. Assists with program activities and other activities as assigned working closely with the program staff.
  15. Assists with seekers ministry when required.
  16. Be prepared with rainy day activities as needed.
  17. Inspects fire extinguishers and reports to Head Counselor if any extinguisher has been dispensed.
  18. Makes sure all cleaning solutions are locked up except during use and used only with supervision.
  19. Assures that all beds in cabin have at least 30 inches between sides of beds.
  20. Stays in cabin with campers at night.
  21. Moves with campers to all classes and activities and remains with them unless otherwise noted.
  22. Both counselors must accompany campers back to cabin and prepare for bedtime.
  23. No camper should be left alone in the cabin without proper staff supervision.
  24. One counselor must be in the room with the campers for 30-45 minutes after lights are out.
  25. Keeps door to room open at night to maintain order.
  26. Maintains an incident report book on all campers for each camp session.
  27. May be asked to teach a class according to experiences or expertise.
  28. At the end of each camp session, wipe down all mattresses, sinks, showers, toilets, and mop floors with bleach water to control germs.
  29. Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in a clean, loving, safe, and secure manner.
  30. Exhibits control of the campers and displays proper discipline techniques when needed.
  31. Determines appropriate supplies and materials for activities ensuring safety.
  32. Maintains the camp materials in an orderly fashion.
  33. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
  34. Assists in leading campers during various activities.
  35. Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of children participating in camp activities.
  36. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs and other camp functions.
  37. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
  38. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
  39. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  40. May assist in cleaning the cabins, kitchen, tables, floors, etc.
  41. May assist in preparing and serving snacks and meals; ensures that campers receive nutritional and tasteful food.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development.
  2. Knowledge of First Aid and C.P.R principles.
  3. Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, and supervise programs and activities.
  4. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and staff.
  6. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior and enforce safety regulations.
  7. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to hazards.
  8. Physical ability to respond to situations requiring first aid.
  9. Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  10. Ability to communicate in English.

Education and Experience

Six months experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certifications

CPR and First Aid Certification

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Some physical requirements include endurance, climbing, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours.

Additional Information

Camp Staff Orientation will be held 6/10/2025 – 6/15/2025 and participation is required.

The 2025 Summer Camp program will be held 6/16/2025-7/19/2025. If unable to work the entire session, please inform us on your application.
